Position:  High School Principal

District:  Avon Lake City Schools

Salary:  per district administrative handbook

JOB OBJECTIVES
Serves as the school’s head administrator and instructional leader. Promotes an effective learning environment. Encourages program innovations. Promotes close working relationships with all stakeholders. Keeps the superintendent informed about emerging issues. Directs, supervises, and evaluates staff as authorized by board policy and contractual agreements. Assumes responsibility for the results of duties delegated to staff. Participates as an active member of the district’s management team. Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Valid Ohio Principal’s license appropriate for the assignment
• Meets all mandated health requirements
• A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
• Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
• Keeps current with technological advances and workplace innovations that supports instruction and learning
• Experience as a building secondary school administrator required
• Experience as a high school teacher preferred
• OTES certified

• Works with stakeholders to move the building forward, while respecting the successful components and programs already in place

• Instructional leader who fosters high academic expectations for staff and students
• Compassionate and accessible leader with sound listening skills
• Plans, implements, and manages details well while following through on commitments
• Has a vision and can communicate that vision effectively
• Actively participates, guides implementation, and supports district initiatives
• Handles conflict in a positive manner
• Effectively deals with student discipline issues, and promotes positive behavior
• Provides direction to assistant principals, including delegation of appropriate responsibilities
