The Beginning Administrators Academy provides “new” administrators with valuable lessons and information that can help make that critical first year a success! The two-day sessions are designed to address the challenges and issues that confront administrators during their initial assignments. Content will include the following topics: The Principal as an Instructional Leader; Legal Concerns and Issues (OASSA legal counsel Bricker & Eckler); Code of Conduct; Teacher and Principal Evaluation; Dealing with Staff and Parents; Utilizing and Understanding Student Data; School Safety; School Budgets and Administrative Contracts. The Academy is designed for two separate sessions, September 11/12, and December 6/7. If you have new administrators in your district, please encourage them to enroll and attend! In order to receive the reduced rate, you must be registered for BOTH sessions by September 13.

Practicing administrators, attorneys, and the OASSA staff will discuss student behavior issues in today’s schools. Topics include discipline of special education students, due process law, alternative forms of discipline, bullying/cyber bullying, social media, recent trends and research, code of conduct recommendations, and legal issues affecting student management.

The highlight of our year, the annual Fall Conference provides a wide range of topics and professional development opportunities. This year, general session speaker, Dave Weber, will kickoff the conference. A nationally recognized author, speaker, and humorist on the topic of organization and motivation, Dave helps professionals make progress on purpose! Additionally, there will be a wide variety of topics relevant to day-to-day administration, and Dr. Daniel Ross, Commissioner of the OHSAA will wrap up the conference as the closing speaker.

OASSA invites current and former superintendents along with staff from the Buckeye Association of School Administrators and the Ohio School Boards Association to offer advice to those who aspire to become school superintendents. Speakers will address the responsibilities of the position, how the job is changing, keys to interviewing, working with your Board of Education, negotiating contracts, and understanding local politics and power structures. A panel discussion with current superintendents allows for audience interaction.

We encourage all “new” administrators to attend the December Beginning Administrators Academy. The two-day session is designed to address the challenges and issues that confront administrators during their initial assignments. The December session will build upon the topics presented and discussed at the September session. Tips for interviewing will be presented and motivational speaker, Bruce Boguski will close the Academy with “Empowerment Through Teamwork.” If you have new administrators in your district, please encourage them to enroll and attend!
