BEGINNING ADMINISTRATORS ACADEMY

We encourage all “new” administrators to attend the Beginning Administrators Academy. The two-day sessions are designed to address the challenges and issues that confront administrators during their initial assignments. Speakers include OASSA legal counsel, Rick Mann, along with OASSA Executive Director, Jim Harbuck. Practicing administrators will also speak on topics that will include: Code of Conduct, Teacher Evaluation, Legal Issues, Dealing with Staff and Parents, Data Tools, Special Education, School Safety, and Administrative Contracts. The Academy is designed for two separate sessions: September 14-15, and December 6-7. You may register for both sessions at a reduced rate of $400 for members and $500 for non-members. If you have a new administrator in your district, please encourage them to enroll and attend!

STUDENT DISCIPLINE CONFERENCE

Practicing administrators, attorneys, and the OASSA staff will discuss behavior management issues in today’s schools. Topics include discipline of special education students, due process law, alternative forms of discipline, recent trends/research, and legal issues affecting student management.

ASPIRING ADMINISTRATORS CONFERENCE

This conference will offer insight and information for teachers who are considering becoming school administrators. The attendees will explore the interview process, how to develop their resume, and surviving the paper screening. A panel of current administrators will discuss transitioning from the classroom to the office. Please encourage a prospective administrator to attend!

2011 OMLA ANNUAL STATE CONFERENCE

OASSA will be coordinating the registration process for the Ohio Middle Level Association Annual State Conference.
Further details will be included in future issues of the OASSA UPDATE and on our website.

General Information

Participants in all OASSA conferences, seminars, and workshops, with the exception of the Workshop for the School Secretary, will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Notice
Registrants who cancel at least three (3) workdays before the date of the conference will not be charged or may request a full refund. Registrants who cancel fewer than three (3) workdays before will be charged for food costs. No shows and registrants who cancel the day of the conference will be charged the full registration amount.

Suggestion
Before you attend a conference, please check with your treasurer to be sure that your registration has been processed. Also, check our website to determine whether or not you are registered.

College Credit
College credit is offered through Ashland University for select conferences.

Flyers
Conference flyers with detailed information will be sent to all OASSA members approximately 8-9 weeks before each conference. Also, conference information is available to OASSA members in the OASSA monthly publication—UPDATE .

Attendance
It is the policy of OASSA to permit attendance at OASSA professional development conferences, seminars, workshops, and meetings by educators and/or school employees whose job duties relate to the content of the professional program. A request for attendance at any OASSA professional conference, seminar, workshop, and meeting by any other individual must be approved by OASSA personnel conducting the program. Each individual must pay the nonmember rate for the program.
